THE EAST : nature, beaches - and the Pangalanes Canal

Day 1 : Arrival in Antananarivo :
On your arrival in the capital, you are welcomed by Canal Tours and brought to your hotel.
Day 2 : Antananarivo – Andasibe :
Departure for Andasibe.
Stopover with guided tour in Mandraka, the site of the Peyrieras Park where many chameleon and other reptile species of the island are kept and to be seen. Arrival in Andasibe in the afternoon.
Day 3 : Andasibe :
Day dedicated to the visit of Andasibe National Park, known for its diversity of rare wildlife species. This is a primary forest covering 25,000 acres and home to the largest lemur species in Madagascar - the indri.
In addition, 13 other lemur species call the park their home, as well as tenrecs, chameleons, and other reptiles… The vegetation is lush and tropical : different orchid and fern species, sacred lianas, palm trees - and the Ravenala (the « Traveller's Tree » and national symbol of Madagascar) which is ubiquitous here.
Day 4 : Andasibe – Manambato – Akanin’ny Nofy :
Drive to Manambato to reach Akanin’ny Nofy by the Pangalanes Canal, a navigable waterway extending alongside the East Coast of Madagascar. It was dug and built by General Gallieni in 1896 to simplify transport of goods and to exercise administrative and military control over the entire region.
After a few hours of boatride, arrival at the « Nest of Dreams », a paradisiacal place on a peninsula of about 85 acres.
Day 5 : Visiting the Palmarium reserve :
The site harbours a private reserve where several lemur species can be observed. A small village tour by boat is also possible.
Day 6 : Akanin’ny Nofy - Toamasina (Tamatave) by the Pangalanes Canal:
Boatride to Tamatave, the capital of the East coast and of the Pangalanes Canal. Guided city tour by pousse-pousse (rickshaw) or car.
Day 7 : Toamasina (Tamatave) – Soanierana-Ivongo – Sainte-Marie :
Drive to Soanierana-Ivongo, then transfer by boat to the island of Sainte-Marie known for its pretty beaches of white sand - and for whale-watching (June to September). A true dream destination.
Note: a transfer by airplane from Tamatave to Sainte-Marie is also possible.
Day 8 : Sainte-Marie :
Day free to spend as you please - several visits and excursions are possible.
Day 9 : Sainte-Marie :
Day to spend as you please.
Day 10 : Sainte-Marie – Antananarivo :
Transfer to Sainte-Marie airport and flight to Antananarivo.
Guided tour of the city. One of the most picturesque capital cities of the world, "Tanà" - as its inhabitants often call it - will tell you its many stories. Possibility of souvenir shopping at Antananarivo's handicrafts markets.
Day 11: Return :
Transfer to the airport for your return flight.
End of tour.
